Berkeley Rep School of Theatre’s Story Builders and Performance Lab

Elementary Schools, Middle Schools and High Schools throughout Oakland (2010)

OFFTA funded 100 hours of free arts education programming to Oakland students through Berkeley Rep School of Theatre’s Story Builders and Performance Lab workshops. Story Builders integrated music, performance, visuals and writing into story telling, encouraging students to participate in the world of a story. The aim of this 10-hour workshop was to increase the literacy skills of K-5 students, including their writing, critical thinking and team-work. Performance Lab worked with middle and high-school students to create plays with a particular topic or theme, such as a novel, historical period or current event. The children are taught creative writing, public speaking and critical thinking. The 10-hour workshop culminates in a final presentation.
